Crystal Springs, a charming seaside villa set within 1.7 acres on the Platinum Coast of Barbados, is an elegant 12,000 sq ft residence comprising six exquisite buildings connected by coral stone terraces and garden-lined pathways. With 12 ensuite guest rooms, multiple living spaces and three alfresco dining areas, it is an ideal setting for multi-generation family gatherings, milestone celebrations and memorable getaways.

The serene oceanfront property is elegantly appointed with bespoke furnishings, original artwork and handcrafted finishes. Onsite amenities include a home cinema, fully equipped fitness centre and 50 ft heated infinity pool, as well as a secluded beach on the Caribbean Sea.

Built in the 1940’s, Crystal Springs was meticulously re-designed in the 1960’s by Oliver Messel, who after establishing an award-winning career in stage, film and costume design, turned his hand to architecture with considerable renown both in Barbados and the nearby island of Mustique. His theatrical style incorporated luxurious furnishings and hand-painted finishes to create stunning backdrops that were impressive yet approachable, creating holiday homes that could truly be lived in. Messel’s floor plans emphasized expansive outdoor living space, taking full advantage of the beautiful tropical environs, from breezy sunny days to starlit evenings.

The Main House features a formal living room, lounge, powder room and butler’s pantry, as well as two alfresco dining areas. Three guest rooms, including the primary suite, are also located in the Main House. The Primary Suite offers a Four-Poster King Bed, Bedrooms 2 and 3 offers king beds that can convert to twins on request.

The Annex sits adjacent to the Main House, with an elegant oceanfront terrace overlooking Crystal Springs’ secluded beach. An alfresco bar, butler’s pantry and seaside dining terrace provide additional living space. The two Annex guest bedrooms offer breathtaking views of the Caribbean Sea and the Gully. Bedroom 4 offers a King Bed (converts to twin) and Bedroom 5 offers a King Bed.

The Pool Cottage features two connecting guest bedrooms which boast views of the mosaic tiled swimming pool and Caribbean Sea beyond. Both bedrooms offer Four Poster King Beds.

The Teahouse Cottage is ideal for a couple or a young family of four. Nestled within the tropical gardens, it has a private outdoor patio with dining area, as well as a formal sitting room with two twin-sized Murphy beds. Bedroom 8 offers a Four Poster King bed and features a double outdoor shower and large standalone soaking tub.

The Pavilion is also located within Crystal Springs’ serene tropical gardens, and features two connecting guest bedrooms. Both Bedroom 9 and Bedroom 10 offers King beds (convert to twins).

Two new rooms have been added, Bedroom 9 in the North Suite offers a King Bed and Bedroom 10 in the South Suite also offers a King Bed (converts to twin).

The en suite bathrooms are finished with imported Italian marble and feature pampering touches such as seersucker robes, Acqua Di Parma toiletries and blow dryers. Four bathrooms feature open-air showers and most have incredible views of the gully or Caribbean Sea.

A private stairway leads down to the beach, and at high tide, the water laps the bottom steps, allowing you to literally step right into the Caribbean Sea. The cove is a delightful spot to sunbathe and enjoy water sports, including stand-up paddle boarding, Sunfish sailing and snorkelling.

Crystal Springs is one of the few private homes with a cordoned-off swimming area, making it safe to enjoy the beautiful waters. The home also has an 18′ speedboat equipped for waterskiing and other aquatic excursions; the boat master can also arrange diving lessons and equipment rentals. Should you desire a good stretch or deep meditation, just below the Annex is an ideal terrace for yoga, looking out to sea with the verdant gully as the backdrop.

The heated infinity swimming pool, finished in a stunning blue Bisazza mosaic tile imported from Italy, is lined with inviting chaise loungers. The mosaic tiles reflect the sparkling sunlight, and the infinity edge offers a window to the sea, where catamarans gracefully sail by. Relax in the shade with a favourite cocktail in hand, or accept the water’s invitation to take a dip beneath the midday sun.

On the rare rainy afternoon or chosen evening in, enjoy films on the big screen in the newly furbished state of the art cinema. Decorated with an array of memorable film posters, it provides the ideal setting for watching both new and old classics, complete with state of the art surround sound and leather reclining chairs. The property also has an ultramodern fitness centre outfitted with Technogym equipment, for those who wish to keep up their workout routines.
