Where to stay in Barbados

When choosing accommodation for your Barbados holiday the question on most visitors’ minds is where to stay among the hundreds and hundreds of luxury villa, condo, and apartments offered for vacation holiday rental.

If this is your first visit to Barbados you should know that there are 3 distinctly different locations on the island:

Where to stay Barbados West Coast

THE WEST COAST

Generally for the more mature and demanding traveler who prefers quiet nights, serene days on the beach and fine dining at the best Barbados restaurants. The sea is usually calmer, therefore generally safer for small kids. On the very odd occasion north swells can affect the north and west coast of the island.

The west coast offers both exquisite world class fine dining as well as refined local cuisine. There is an abundance of nightlife. Shopping ranges from unique hand crafted items to the ultimate in haute couture luxury. Nightly rates on the West Coast reflect the arguably higher standard of accommodation as well as that the majority of properties are fully staffed with a daily housekeeper and cook.

Where to stay Barbados south coast

THE SOUTH COAST

Better suited for those who seek a more lively atmosphere, who prefer activity filled days and nights, bars, drinks specials and the like. While the sea is not uncomfortably rough, it tends to be more active than the west coast. Accommodation tends to be mainly densely laid out condo and apartment rentals with housekeeping service provided a few days a week.

Where to Stay Barbados East Coast

THE SOUTH-EAST & EAST COAST

A very rural location with rugged, stunning natural scenery, and rolling waves for surfing. Ranked consistently as one of the world’s premiere surfing locations, the “Soup Bowl” at Bathsheba is a mecca for the surfing set and has seen waves exceeding 15 feet in height. Accommodation, with a few notable exceptions, can be fairly basic. Shopping can be an issue but at 21 miles long, 14 miles wide, nothing is really ever that far away.

Choosing the right location will depend on what you are expecting from your holiday, whether it be budget friendly vacation rental, the perfect family vacation home, beach front luxury cottage, for the golf and tennis enthusiasts, completely away from it all, self catering with resort amenities or somewhere for your group or event.
